Who we are
Pattern is Bird & Bird's industry-leading Patent Intelligence Consultancy, specialising in patent intelligence, portfolio and licensing strategy, and econometrics. We are seeking an innovative and capable Consultant (mid-senior), with a strong numerical background. This is a client-facing role in a team responsible for advising many of the world's biggest technology companies on multi-billion-dollar transactions and disputes.
What we're looking for
Candidates are not required to have any pre-existing knowledge in patents, licensing or law. Instead, we are seeking a high-calibre individual, with outstanding problem solving, data analytics and communication skills, who is capable of rapidly understanding and solving a wide variety of novel and complex problems, taking the initiative, innovating to find solutions, and distilling results into clear, actionable advice for clients.
The role provides significant development and progression opportunities, and you will be expected to be proactive in this regard. You will be working in a challenging and dynamic, team-based environment, with multi-disciplinary colleagues. You will have the opportunity to collaborate on the development of cutting-edge bespoke software and databases to support the Pattern offering.

In addition to advising on multi-billion-dollar international patent disputes, the Pattern team has recent experience as testifying experts in international arbitration and in directly representing clients in high-stakes licensing negotiations. You will be working with a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, lawyers, analysts, and developers.
The Pattern team currently consists of six members supported by two Partners and other Associates on an ad hoc basis, and the team is growing quickly. It is integrated with our internationally renowned IP team, which is consistently ranked in the highest band internationally in both Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
