What we need

We are looking for an experienced data analyst to join our Product team at Smokeball. This position will be responsible for the extraction and mining of large volumes of data, including data profiling, data cleansing, data transformation, and the loading of data into our software. Our ideal candidate is an independent worker with experience meeting and exceeding customer requirements.  

A day in the life: 

  • Report to the Legal Product Manager to deliver custom analytic requests for internal and external clients.
  • Work closely with Product teams to measure usage of features, delivering dashboards which visualize usage of features to guide strategy.
  • Advise Product and Development on data structure for new metrics.
  • Ideate new ways to visualize information to derive insights for legal clients.
  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development and business strategies.
  • Collaborate with product managers and/or clients to deliver report which meets client needs.

What you bring

  • Fluency with SQL.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working on open ended custom analytic requests.
  • Drive to find answers, motivation to learn, and adaptive to changing business needs.
  • Dedication and perseverance to overcome data, analytical, and/or technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of accounting basics (ie debits/ credit) is a plus.
  • Enjoy being in the data and finding value/insight.
  • Experience building and implementing predictive models.
  • Passion for delivering value to clients and prioritizing their needs.
  • 5 years experience with SSRS and Report Builder.

Mary Ellen: Hi, I’m Mary Ellen! I’ve been working in Chicago tech for 10 years, starting out as a support specialist and working my way into Product Management. As the US Head of Product, I am passionate about building features which are intuitive and truly understand the client’s needs. Our Product Team is autonomous day to day, but collaborate heavily with each other and other teams to figure out sticky issues or to come up with the best UX for a new feature. Aside from work, I am an enthusiast for national parks, my garden, and all levels of quality of tacos.

Robert: Hi, I’m Robert! Although I started my career working in law firms, I’ve been working in tech for the past 6 years and have been at Smokeball for 2.5 years. As a Data Migrations Specialist, I work to ensure a smooth data migration for new Smokeball clients. My favorite thing about working at Smokeball is the ability to help clients streamline their practice by switching to our user-friendly but robust software. I also really enjoy spending time with my coworkers. Outside of work, I am passionate about my adopted home city of New Orleans, my dog, light jogs, and my never-ending quest to learn Spanish.
