Legal Content Manager

Reports To: Content Director

The Legal Content Manager is responsible for ensuring that the legal information on ILAO’s website is legally accurate and up-to-date. They coordinate our team of hundreds of Legal Content Volunteers (LCVs) who are an integral part of the functioning of our website. They stay abreast of legal trends and issues facing people in poverty in Illinois, and help come up with new ways of helping increase access to justice using technology.

Primary responsibilities

Supervise content producers/reviewers 50%

  • Lead and manage the Legal Content Volunteer Program, ILAO’s statewide network of legal-aid and private attorney contributors/editors
  • Ensure LCVs are supported, acknowledged, and appreciated
  • Assist others on the Content Team when a need arises for a legal subject matter expert
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise interns and fellows
  • Ensure interns and fellows are supported, acknowledged, and appreciated
  • Network and build relationships with others in the legal profession, especially in legal aid and access to justice, to collaborate on solutions to major issues
  • Serve on the Illinois Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission’s Forms Subcommittees to advise on form design and plain language

Produce & publish content 35%

  • Monitor law changes and other legal developments to ensure ILAO content is up-to-date
  • Ensure that content production milestones for new products are met on time 
  • Monitor what content exists outside of ILAO's library and determine how to best incorporate into ILAO's products
  • Collaborate with others on Content Team to come up with new ways of packaging and delivering legal information
  • Understand the needs of legal aid and pro bono attorneys and ensure ILAO is supporting them with meaningful tools and resources
  • Create a variety of types of content in addition to text, like flowcharts, infographics, videos, and eLearning modules.

Content evaluation and feedback management 15%

  • Establish metrics and standard reports for content performance and evaluation
  • Collect, aggregate, analyze and share data with ILAO staff and partners as needed
  • Enforce content quality standards and oversee content governance process
  • Develop, execute, and continuously improve content quality assurance and prioritization process
  • Work with Product Support Analyst to collect and respond to content-related user feedback

Performance Measures

  • Number of words reviewed per quarter
  • Number of blogs created per quarter
  • Content production milestones are met for product launches
  • Flesch-Kincaid scale rating of legal content
  • Google Analytics data on legal content including acquisition and behavior
  • LCV satisfaction survey results
  • Intern/fellow exit interview survey results and feedback

Education/Experience

  • Law degree (J.D.) or similar legal experience required
  • Experience recruiting, training, supporting, and recognizing volunteers
  • Experience distilling complicated concepts into understandable, actionable resources

Preference given to candidates with

  • Experience with Jira, Slack, and/or Salesforce
  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish
  • Strong connections to Illinois and/or understanding of Illinois law
