As a Contracts Manager at Athennian, you will leverage your past experience negotiating contracts and managing contract lifecycles on both sides of the table, representing Athennian’s interests with its prospective and current customers, and with its prospective and current vendors. You will be a trusted advisor for our sales and customer success teams when it comes to interpreting our SaaS licensing terms, and for internal owners of our vendor relationships. You are a builder, and will be an integral member of a team that builds scalable systems that meet the company’s needs related to contract lifecycle management.

This position is open to remote work options in the following time zones: EST, CST, MST and PST.

  • Redline and negotiate customer agreements, making recommendations to sales team members and senior management
  • Review order forms created by sales executives for accuracy against product catalogs and purchase term standards
  • Own and maintain contract lifecycle management and systems, including redline ticket workflows and SaaS management tools
  • Own and operate SOC2 controls related to third party management and data privacy
  • Own customer notice and amendment procedures, and operate them effectively in consultation with other stakeholders
  • Work with other SMEs/operators to ensure revenue metrics are captured accurately in our CRM and flow to other related systems correctly
  • Create and maintain knowledge-base articles and guidance for internal stakeholders
  • Act as an advisor/SME for internal stakeholders, including training new team members on procedures and guidelines (i.e. training new sales executives on procedures for customer negotiations; training new department heads on procedures for new vendor onboarding)

Your success will be measured by your ability to:

  • use good judgment, make sound data-driven decisions, and make recommendations that balance best practices with a level of risk appropriate to the organization’s age and stage
  • build new (and improve current) agile systems with little oversight that drive efficiency and demonstrate a keen understanding of our product (customer-side) and our tech stack (vendor-side)
  • use the organization’s current software tools and systems, optimize them, and evaluate new solutions
  • understand a business need, research agreement precedents, seek advice from advisors when appropriate, and demonstrate strong technical drafting skills
  • work efficiently and enthusiastically across functional groups
  • translate agreement mechanics into meaningful data sets
  • self-manage and execute projects with minimal direction, report on project works in progress, delegate when appropriate, work under pressure, and manage competing priorities
  • approach problem solving with a “how can I make this better” attitude

Key Relationships

  • Reporting to the Director, Operations & Compliance, you’ll work closely with all departments in the company.
  • Customers: you’ll be the first point of contact for the sales and customer success teams when customers ask to negotiate our license agreement
  • Procurement: you’ll assess vendor agreements for legal requirements, and work closely with our procurement, security, and finance teams to assess third- and fourth- party related risks, track vendor renewals, and assist with operating SOC2 controls related to vendor management.
  • Partners: you’ll evaluate partnership agreements to ensure intended outcomes are effectively documented and able to be effectively operated
  • Legal: you’ll liaise with outside counsel when necessary

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Expert written communication and drafting ability
  • 4+ years experience in a similar role (SaaS experience preferred)
  • Experience managing contracting workflows within a CRM (such as HubSpot)
  • Working knowledge of data privacy protection regulations, including GDPR

Bonus Points

  • Experience with CMSs such as IronClad
  • Experience with Jira ticketing
  • Experience in corporate governance
  • Member of International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or National Contract Management Association (NCMA)
