Lawtech Graduate Scheme

MacFarlanes

Internship

London, UK

Mar 31

We are committed to recruiting and developing the best people to ensure we deliver a paramount service to our clients. We recognise that the success of a modern law firm depends on a range of business professionals contributing critical and complementary expertise.

Our two year lawtech graduate scheme will give you exposure to legal technology in action. We’ll train you in those new technologies, tools and approaches, how to apply them to legal practice, how to use them to develop complex and sophisticated digital solutions for clients and how to help nurture a culture of innovation and creativity across an organisation.

What to expect:

Unsurprisingly, no two days will look the same. One day you might be working with AI technology to support the work our lawyers do in a particular area of practice, another day you might be working on a cutting edge digital solution for a client. Or you might be facilitating an ideation workshop to generate ideas for future projects.

During the two year scheme you’ll gain experience of artificial intelligence, collaborative technologies, document automation, process automation and robotics, expert systems, knowledge management systems, data visualisation, project management tools and a host of other legal technologies in a variety of internal and client-facing contexts. You’ll be involved in developing, prototyping and rolling out digital solutions for our clients. You’ll explore new tools and technologies and consider their potential use by the firm and our clients. You’ll provide advice and support to our teams and our clients on our lawtech solutions, as well as promoting a culture of innovation across the firm by participating in, and facilitating, design and ideation workshops, training sessions and forums.

You’ll also develop a strong understanding of our practice areas, our business services teams and our clients by working closely with colleagues right across the firm who are leaders in their field.

We have in place a comprehensive training programme, giving you access to a wealth of knowledge and resources to develop your skillset as a legal technologist.

The scheme will start in September 2021. Graduates successfully completing the scheme will be offered a permanent position, taking on more responsibility for internal and client-facing projects, honing their skillset further and developing them as future leaders.

What we’re looking for:

There is no blueprint for a “typical” legal technologist at Macfarlanes. Diversity is important to us, in all its forms. We benefit from having a team from different backgrounds and with a variety of expertise and insight. It helps us challenge the status quo, see things differently and come up with creative solutions.

The ideal candidate will fulfill the following criteria:

  • an imminent or recent graduate, looking for an exciting opportunity to forge a career within a dynamic and expanding area of the legal profession;
  • a strong academic record, with a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent higher education) in any subject;
  • a keen interest in legal technology and its application to legal practice, with an organised, meticulous and methodical approach to work and a keen eye for detail;
  • a good communicator, able to gain the confidence and trust of, and build strong relationships with, internal colleagues and clients quickly;
  • a passion for a challenge with the ability to thrive on problem solving and analysis; and
  • a positive and pro-active, with a “can do” attitude.
